An apparently idyllic house boat trip is thrown into disarray when Diane (Rabe) and her children are rocked by revelations of financial strife kept secret by obstinate husband Ray (Ifans). At sea and with a chaotic holiday ahead of them, the family must struggle to keep it together and face an uncertain future, but not before competing in a truly epic fishing competition. With an easygoing charm, affection for its complex characters, and a real sense of place, Lindsey Ryan’s beautifully filmed and hilarious American indie debut tackles a very contemporary story of economic uncertainty with optimism, warmth and humour. – Paul Ridd
