Overview

Part of the

strand.

A delicate portrait of a young Mexican boy who wants to know what happens when we die.

The boy forms an unlikely friendship with a local hermit whose inconceivable age and ailing health feeds his curiosity along with the world around him, which is full of mystery and intrigue.

Beautifully shot and featuring a captivating, charismatic central performance, this is a deeply moving film about the circle of life, the human experience and the order of the natural world.

– Emma Boa

Xibalba Monster challenges the young audience, it’s a film full of questions, emotions and reflections, with an emphasis in the importance of nature as a place of origin and awareness.

A film that portraits characters in their complexity and ambivalence, always evoking the presence of death that lurks, within an unknown nature and within a context of stories and mythologies of remote villages of Mexico, keepers of a mystery that awakens the imagination.

– Director Manuela Irene
