An insightful and moving documentary about a thirty-something man and his relationship with the life-size AI doll he lives with, who is animated through an app.
The real focus of this beautiful film is his honest reflection and the complex personal history that has led him to develop this confined yet very real relationship with the doll.
This is a clear-eyed, open-hearted and fascinating take on machine learning and AI, and the social implications for people who may seek safety and control over their circumstances in ways they cannot find elsewhere in life.

My initial aim with this story was to spotlight a seemingly ‘abnormal’ individual and, by exploring the very relatable circumstances of their ‘abnormal’ decisions, dissolve any illusions of their being different from the rest of us. I was more than lucky to find Chris, a lovable, inspiring survivor I felt an immediate connection with.
In this singular era – as reality increasingly resembles the far-fetched futures of Chris’s sci-fi movies – his story felt like microcosm of this tech-centric migration, a development I myself have personally felt: one from tech’s thrilling potential for connecting humans far and wide; to our gradual, all-pervasive dependence on it; to then finally, perhaps, finding ourselves in desperate need for real human connection.
